2-Wheeled Wednesdays

File this one under "Old dog, New tricks."

It all started when I got a new bike computer. For a few years I had naked bars. None of my bikes had any electronics on the handlebars - no speedometers, no heart rate monitors, no phones. It was nice, it was liberating riding around naked - well my handlebars at least.

But keeping track of various data this year, while I was using the bike as a training tool more than an escape vehicle, led to there being a computer on the end of a mount sticking out in front of me. There it is on my road bike

And I have the same mount on my mountain bike as well. The cool thing is that the computer snaps onto the top and underneath you can hang a GoPro! Still with me? I ramble sometimes.

So over this past summer I've collected hours of video footage and quite a few stills and now I'm making them into short videos that I'm going to post online. I'm calling it 2-Wheeled Wednesdays - a bi-weekly short - five to ten minute - video on the subject of bicycling. Sometimes directly, other times approaching the subject from a more obtuse angle.

I try and get out on one of my bikes - I’m currently up to four of ‘em - at a minimum once a week and would love to share my rides with you - at least virtually. I’ll try to post a new episode every other Wednesday.

Why Wednesday? Well, why not? Who doesn’t like a break in the middle of the week? Actually that started this past summer, too. A local farm takes orders for pick-up of the most delicious and freshest produce twice a week - on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

ree

You can only pick up your order for that day between 11:30am and 2:30pm, and it’s a 45-minute drive from my home to their farm stand. To avoid the summer weekend traffic on Hwy 101, I opted for the Wednesday pick-ups. Once a week is plenty! They have a twenty dollar minimum and there’s too much food for twice a week - as a matter of fact, once a week got to be too much and I ended up canning a lot of it.

ree

Not that that’s a bad thing….

Needless to say, it blows a hole in the middle of a weekday work day, so I rearranged my schedule and started taking Wednesdays off and writing on Saturdays.

But there’s plenty of time before the stand opens and after I’ve packed my cooler. So I’m usually out on two wheels on Wednesdays.

Actually I ride three or four times a week. Sometimes a spin on my road bike,

ree

sometimes hitting the trails or gravel roads on one of my off-road bikes.

Or maybe riding ol' Yeller - my trusty townie - into Gold Beach to run some errands and do some visitin’.

I did some other fun rides this summer, like the stretch of three organized centuries and another on my own on four consecutive weekends.

ree

And then there was the mountain bike road trip odyssey where I mountain biked in six different western states - Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon - in six days.

Of course I brought at least one camera - usually two - with me. So I'm teaching myself (I'm officially an old dog now - I qualify for Medicare) how to create videos. Here’s a link to the first of the 2-Wheeled Wednesday series - Mountain Biking at Whiskey Run. The next one is a road ride to Spiderweb Rocks that I filmed just a few days ago. That will be posted Wednesday 11/2/22.

Please consider subscribing (or following or whatever you young dogs do these days).
