Litter on the Geezer Trail

Drove up to Langlois Wednesday to pick up my weekly order from Valley Flora farmstand (I'll be doing some canning this weekend!) and decided since I was that far north that I'd head up to Whiskey Run and get in some trail riding. I just had my bike tuned by High Hill Cycles and it's running right nice. This was my third time up there and starting to get to know my way around, but still...not really. There was a group of young men (I was guessing that they were high school kids - definitely below drinking age) hanging around. They looked like serious mountain bikers - fit and dressed in the latest MTB gear which certainly looked used) so I asked them what they'd recommend as a nice loop for a beginning trail rider. They looked me up and down - my bright orange Amazon-purchased helmet, my bike that's older than they are, my tie-die t-shirt - and kind of chuckled. I said, "You know, something for a geezer like me." We looked at the map and they showed me a route that was mostly green (easy) with some blue (medium). I said thanks, they said bye, and off I went. They were right, it was a nice trail, not too easy, not too hard - in the words of Little Red Riding Hood - it was just right.

About ten minutes into my ride, I saw a yellow something off the side of the trail. This was the third time I was there and hadn't seen any trash or litter, not even in the parking lot, much less out on the trails.

I parked my bike and walked up to it - you know, doing my part to keep the place nice. I had to laugh once I saw what it was - an empty package of prunes! Yep. Those kids that recommended this route were right - I was certainly on the geezer trail!

I picked up the package but it must have fallen out in one of my crashes before I got back to the parking area so hopefully someone else will get it to a trash can.

But at least they were organic prunes!

I got lost a couple times but eventually made it back to my car.
